A bidirectional partnership grounded in genuine learning
WAKA CMEC is a fully accredited clinical education institution regulated by the Nursing Council of Kenya, TVET CDACC, and the National Industrial Training Authority. Located in the central highlands of Nyeri — two and a half hours from Nairobi — we offer a dual-immersion model that combines high-volume clinical rotations with hands-on rural community outreach.
Since 2020 we have successfully run a biannual clinical immersion programme with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. We are now inviting additional institutional partners who value mutually beneficial, non-paternalistic global health education.
What your students will gain
- Supervised clinical rotations at Nyeri County Referral Hospital and sub-county facilities in Karatina and Mukurwe-ini
- Community outreach medical camp conducted jointly with WAKA CMEC students and staff
- Helping Babies Survive (HBS) / Helping Babies Breathe training — AAP/WHO evidence-based curriculum in an authentic low-resource setting
- Cultural and regional immersion, including a Maasai Mara safari
- All meals covered during clinical, outreach, and safari components
14-Day Programme Structure
What the exchange looks like
Hospital Rotations
Four or more days of supervised clinical rotations across county and sub-county hospital sites in the Mt. Kenya region.
Community Outreach
A joint medical camp with WAKA CMEC students and staff serving rural sub-counties of Nyeri, Kieni East, and Kieni West.
HBS / HBB Training
A half-day AAP/WHO-accredited Helping Babies Survive and Breathe training session in an authentic low-resource clinical setting.
Cultural Immersion
Regional and cultural experiences including a Maasai Mara safari — integrated into the programme at no additional meals cost.
Faculty Exchange
Opportunities for your faculty and ours to share academic perspectives, co-develop curriculum, and build lasting institutional ties.
